ART STATEMENT - A journeyman's year through art processes and resolution: Water and the fluid nature of drawing? Looking at a photograph that although I took it myself on my daughter's mobile phone, I 'stole' it from social media. This led me to think again about distance and how images are now mainly seen online in digital formats. They are in an ubiquitous media cycle for re-use. Thus an appearance recorded in the mirror of a palace in Istanbul, a city on the edge of significant bodies of water that divide Europe and Asia, is investigated as an impression. A mirror reflection partially surrounded by a frame of blue and white ceramic tiles was 'flipped' & re-pictured as drawings made by hand. It loosely links concepts of art, abstraction, culture, place, and the visual space of the drawings. The ‘flatness’ of blue targets abstracted was painted in a repetitive series onto sheet music & made as concentric circle patterns on ceramic/glass bowls. A drop in the ocean: The ripple effect of thoughts, ideas, and how outcomes are realised.
