2017 project: Eyes open I, II & III
A series of artworks that explore a theme of the sea: painting (underwater) and sculptural techniques (found material from the Abrolhos Island), along with the principles of design.

Eyes open III (acrylic on canvas): How to paint water?

The sea and the idea of 'oceanic' (as a psychological condition of the unconscious) are the broad proposal for this 'underwater' themed work.
Rope, wood, polystyrene, bits of metal, broken crockery (Bone China), and fragments of glass, are all contrasted with an Australian (Kimberley) river crocodile. Together they are compared with the aesthetic beauty of nature or the 'sublime' from a classic aesthetic tradition of land or seascapes. But here, it is the phenomenon of environmental pollution found in the Indian Ocean that is the question for contemplation.
